Waterfront Hotel
Perth, WA
BACKGROUND

As part of the redevelopment of the 19 story Waterfront Hotel on the Swan River in Perth, a watertight temporary cofferdam was required within the river to construct the building’s lift shaft.

SCOPE

A cantilevered steel sheet pile cofferdam was designed by J Steel’s in-house engineering department for the fluctuating river levels to support a maximum retained height of 2.8m.

In addition, the cofferdam geometry had to work around the significant existing infrastructure and the new piling requirements.

OUTCOMES

As the sheet piling was temporary and sacrificial, J Steel was able to utilise existing stocks of second-hand material, optimising the design and providing project cost savings.
