Spirally welded tubular hollow sections

Spirally welded tubular hollow sections are manufactured from steel coil by using a continuous spiral weld, welded internally and externally using automatic submerged arc welding. This method of fabrication is often the most economical solution for medium to large size structural and non-structural applications.

Size range:

  • Outside diameter 150mm to 3000mm
  • Wall thickness 5mm to 25mm
  • Unspliced length in excess of 60m

Characteristics and key benefits:

  • Wide range of steel grades and manufacturing standards available
  • In-line manufacturing process for pile forming, welding and testing
  • Fast and cost effective manufacturing method
  • Continuous unspliced sections
  • Option to incorporate:
    • pile shoes to facilitate pile driving
    • internal lining and external protective coatings
    • clutches, shear key rings or other fabricated components

Typical applications:

  • Pipes – typically used in pipelines for conducting liquid or gas
  • Piles – bearing elements for foundations typically within civil and marine environments
  • Casings for concrete piles
  • Components within mechanical systems and high pressure / temperature processes
  • Oil & petroleum casings
